{"id":122,"date":"2006-06-21T22:07:10","date_gmt":"2006-06-22T04:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.galador.org\/?p=122"},"modified":"2008-04-08T22:21:46","modified_gmt":"2008-04-09T04:21:46","slug":"the-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.galador.org\/blog\/the-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"The Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In case you missed my last entry (shame on you), for the past eight days, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been on family vacation to Corpus Christi and San Antonio.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It was pretty fun, but not quite as fun as our usual family vacations.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Also, I saw a lot of stuff I thought I need to share, so later, this entry could get pretty random.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Just a warning to the faint of heart or whatever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">So, last Tuesday, June 13, we packed everything up and left about four in the afternoon.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>We drove forever and ate supper right before we got to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Tehas<\/span>.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Finally, at about eleven o\u00e2\u20ac\u2122clock at night, we stopped in <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/?q=Nacogdoches,%20Texas\">Nacogdoches, Texas<\/a>, where we got a hotel.<span style=\"\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">The next day, we drove <i style=\"\">even friggin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122  more<\/i>!<span style=\"\">   <\/span>We continued to drive until we finally got to Corpus, where we checked into the hotel and drove around some to see all the neat stuff to see in Corpus (and just to let you know, besides the beach, the <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usslexington.com\/\">USS Lexington<\/a> [more on that later], the <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/www.texasstateaquarium.org\/\">Texas State Aquarium<\/a>, and the <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/www.corpuschristi-tx-cvb.org\/\">Convention Center<\/a>, there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s really not much interesting there [at least in my opinion]).<span style=\"\">  <\/span>We ate supper at the Olive Garden (which is always good, no matter where you are <img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" width=\"15\" src=\"http:\/\/www.xanga.com\/images\/laughing.gif\" \/>)<span style=\"\"><\/span>Then we went to this random beach and enjoyed the ocean breeze for a little while.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">The next day, we had to get up early, cause my dad had to bowl in the <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bowl.com\/\">USBC<\/a> Open Nationals.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>This is the yearly tournament for male bowlers who have paid their sanction fees for USBC.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>All people are invited to bowl in this tournament, and there are all kinds of prizes and all that good stuff.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Though the conditions are always really tough, and this year was no different.<span style=\"\"> <\/span>However, one of my dad\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s team mates rolled a 299 game (in case you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know a perfect game is 300)\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6it was really nice.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>My dad bought himself a new bowling ball, and my mom bought a ball and some bowling shoes.<span style=\"\"> <\/p>\n<p><\/span>Afterwards, we went to the <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/USS_Lexington_%28CV-16%29\">USS Lexington<\/a>.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Lex\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 is a de-commissioned United States <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Essex_class_aircraft_carrier\">Essex-Class Carrier<\/a> that has been converted into a floating museum.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It was really cool (of course, I like military-technology stuff).<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There were all kinds of displays of guns, helicopters, airplanes, and all kinds of other<br \/>\nmilitary stuff.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There was also an IMAXmovie theater, which showed a movie about Fighter Pilots.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It really enjoyed going to &#8220;The Lex.&#8221;<span style=\"\">  <\/span>We ate a Whataburger, which is really good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">The next day, we went to the beach, which wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t as bad as I thought it would be, but I still really didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have all that much fun.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>After that, we went and drove \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Loop,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which is this highway loop that goes around Corpus<br \/>\nChristi, through Aransas (stupid Texans, can&#8217;t even spell &#8220;Arkansas&#8221; right <img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" width=\"15\" src=\"http:\/\/www.xanga.com\/images\/silly.gif\" \/>) Pass and Port Aransas, over Mustang Island, and then<br \/>\nback to Corpus Christi.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>During this excursion, we got to ride on a ferry, which was kind of cool.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>After we got back to the hotel room, my parents did the laundry, so my brother and I sat in the hotel room.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>I had my good friend, Internet, to keep me company, so I wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t too depressed about it.  <span style=\"font-family: Wingdings;\"><span style=\"\" \/><\/span><span style=\"\"> <\/span>This was our last day in Corpus, which I was happy about.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Corpus was not all that fun for me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">So, when we woke up the next day, we left for San Antonio (yes, <i style=\"\">more<\/i> driving).<span style=\"\">  <\/span>And after you get out of Corpus, heading towards San Antonio, the land is flat\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6for as long as the eye can see.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Not the kind of landscape you want to look at for many hours.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Also, it<br \/>\nis prime growing season, yet none of the fields we passed on the way to SA were being used to grow crops\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6kind of weird.<span style=\"\"><\/span>When we got there, we stayed in the Hotel for a little bit, and about supper time, we went to the River Market\/Alamo\/River Walk area.<span style=\"\"> <\/span><span style=\"\"> <\/span>Before I go into what we did there, I wish to pose a question.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Why is it that to get from the area where most of the hotels in a given city are to the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Touristy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (and yes, according to Microsoft Word&#8217;s Spell-Check, &#8220;Touristy&#8221; is, in fact, a real word) area, you are required most of the time to go through the slum part of town?<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It seems inevitable that wherever you are, this is the case.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>(Yes, this was the case in San Antonio.)<span style=\"\">  <\/span>So, in the Downtown San Antonio area, we ate at this awesome Mexican Restaurant called <i style=\"\">Mi Tierra<\/i>.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It has to be the best Mexican food I have ever had.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>But if you go there, be prepared to wait a while to eat\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 You have to get a number (like in government offices where you pull the little slip from the machine, and they call your number to be served) at the podium, and then you watch these LED displays for your number to get a table.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>So you have to wait to be waited on.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>We got lucky, and had our number called soon after we got our ticket (they randomly choose the numbers), so that was cool.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>If you do go there, I recommend the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Super Mexican Dinner\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or something like that.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It was <i style=\"\">really <\/i>good.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>After that, we went and saw the Alamo.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It seems smaller than I imagined it to be (and less orange than it looks in the pictures).<span style=\"\">  <\/span>We then walked the <i style=\"\">Paseo de Rio<\/i> (the River Walk, for those of you not versed in your Spanish).<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It was really cool.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>The flora was really pretty.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>I so wish I had a digital camera so I could have taken a million pictures there.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There were also a ton of people there.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It was definitely cool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">The next day, we went to SeaWorld.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>The shows were awesome.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>The rides, not so much.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Now don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get me wrong, they were still fun\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just that I thought that the shows were so much more interesting.<span style=\"\">   <\/span>We came back on the day after that, so we<br \/>\nhad two straight days of SeaWorld.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Now, some of the randomness starts to surface\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153La Grange\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is best left to ZZ Top.<\/li>\n<li>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I Like to Move It, Move It\u00e2\u20ac\u009d = Crazy Little Kid (and Mrs. Smith)<\/li>\n<li>The \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Carwash\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Song = Craziness (andNikki Greene)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">And that brings us to today (technically yesterday, now)\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6we drove <i style=\"\">ALL FRIGGIN\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 DAY!<\/i><span style=\"\">  <\/span>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m so glad to be home, though.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Today I heard a The Fray song on the radio.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s kind of cool to already know a song before it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s played on the radio.<span style=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/span>Also, we took my car on the trip, and the transmission started to leak.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>However, we think it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just that the seals dried out, allowing the transmission fluid to leak, because once it cooled down, and we got back to the more humid climes of Arkansas, it quit.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>So, that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s good.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>But I still think we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to get the<br \/>\nseals replaced, just in case.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\" \/> And don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think that just because I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m<br \/>\nback at home means that there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no more stuff to write about\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6now comes the part of this post where more randomness surfaces and I make some other comments.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>So, here we go:<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Pastels are definitely <i style=\"\">not<\/i> good colors for beach houses (and probably <i style=\"\">any<\/i> house, for that matter).<\/li>\n<li>There were <a target=\"_new\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bathyscaph\">bathyscaphes<\/a> for sale in Corpus.<\/li>\n<li>The next version of Microsoft Office is a <i style=\"\">huge<\/i> improvement over the current one\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6but it takes some getting used to the new User Interface.<\/li>\n<li>Saw a Delivery Truck from Keebler&#8217;s that said &#8220;A little Elfin Magic goes a long way.&#8221; and I thought it said &#8220;A little &#8216;Effin magic goes a long way&#8221; :)<\/li>\n<li>I saw a real-life Shriner\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s temple.<\/li>\n<li>Symbolics.com was the first ever domain name to be registered.<\/li>\n<li>In San Antonio, I saw a pregnancy clinic next to a Little Ceasar&#8217;s Pizza&#8230; so I guess if you&#8217;re hungry after banging your girlfriend, you can grab some pizza while she&#8217;s checking to see if you got her pregnant. <\/li>\n<li>My mom says she saw a transvestite gas station attendant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Now\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6while I was on vacation, due to the large amount of car-riding, I was able to catch up on my music-listening, and here are the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nada Surf changed <i style=\"\">a lot<\/i> between their first and second albums.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Both are good, but the style definitely changed a whole lot between the two.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"\">Brand New are pretty good. <\/span>I really like the song &#8220;Sic Gloria Transit &amp;<br \/>\nGlory Fades.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"\">Motion City Soundtrack also changed a lot between their albums.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>I like their new album much better, but again, they&#8217;re both still good.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"\">I really like Plain White T&#8217;s.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"\">Circa Survive is als<\/span>o really good, and the singer has a really unique voice.<\/li>\n<li>I heard the actual recording of &#8220;Daddy&#8217;s Hands&#8221; on the radio.<span style=\"\"> <\/span>It brought back bad memories.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>I instantly turned up my iPod to cover it up.<span style=\"\"> <\/span>The &#8220;Star Wars Main Theme\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was much more enjoyable.<\/li>\n<li>They played &#8220;Move Along&#8221; by the All-American Rejects in Corpus Christi like once every two hours.  Now, I&#8217;ll admit, I think it&#8217;s a good song, even an excellent one, but one kind of gets tired of hearing a song <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">every time you get in the car<\/span>!  Literally. I heard it every time we were in the car in Corpus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 0.5in;\" class=\"MsoNormal\" \/> So, that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s enough randomness and updating and music stuff to keep one occupied for quite some time\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6so I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m signing off for now.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>(8,191 characters, suckas!)<\/p>\n<p \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In case you missed my last entry (shame on you), for the past eight days, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been on family vacation to Corpus Christi and San Antonio.
